Your Better Way To Health With Homeopathy

“Homeopathy is simple, safe and effective. The majority of people can improve their health by having professional homeopathic treatment from a competent practitioner.”

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle system of healing which works by stimulating the natural healing ability of the body. homeopathic medicines are chosen to fit all the characteristics of the patient, thereby treating the person as a whole rather than just the presenting complaint.

There are no harmful side effects – a special process called potentisation refines the medicines to remove any toxic effects. It is therefore safe for everyone, including pregnant women, babies and young children.

The History of Homeopathy

Homeopathy was developed by Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755 -1843). History tells that Hahnemann was translating a scientific paper by William Cullen, a Scottish Physician, on his theory why Cinchona Bark (a source of quinine and a popular drug at the time) was successful in treating Malaria. Hahnemann disagreed entirely with his findings and decided to carry out some experiments of his own. It was from these initial experiments that he developed the homeopathic principles and the complete system of medicine that is used by homeopaths today.

The Law of Similars

The main principle behind homeopathic prescribing is the concept of ‘like cures like’. A substance that can CAUSE a set of symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to CURE a similar set of symptoms in a sick individual.

For example, the substance coffee has the ability to stimulate the mind to the point of sleeplessness, amongst other symptoms. If somebody has a simlar kind of sleeplessness (and it wasn’t due to excess coffee) the remedy Coffea, which is made from coffee may help.

Samuel hahnemann

Hahnemann tested substances for the effect they produced on a healthy individual and tried to deduce from this the ills they would heal

Mandy Mullaney LCPH MARH Registered Homeopath

Mandys passion for homeopathy was born after successful treatment for herself and her animals. This prompted her homeopathic training, a career change and a sad farewell to a life working with animals as a veterinary nurse.

Training was undertaken at the London College of Practical Homeopathy with graduation in 2001. This college was chosen as Practical Homeopathy encompasses all methods of homeopathic prescribing including Classical Homeopathy.

Following graduation Mandy worked as a volunteer for the London Lighthouse charity offering a comprehensive homeopathic service to people diagnosed with HIV. In 2003 she moved to Kent and set up private practice with clinics in Folkestone and Whitstable, and she now has a widespread client base from all over Kent.

In this time Mandy also started a family and now has two beautiful daughters that demonstrate time and time again how profoundly and quickly children respond to homeopathy

Where appropriate or requested Mandy also uses Bach Flower Essences and has trained with Tessa Jordan on the Bach Flower Essence course for homeopaths. Flower Essences are particularly useful in cases where there is an emphasis on emotional symptoms and they can be used effectively alongside homeopathic remedies, or on their own. She is also currently training in a soft tissue remedial therapy called The Bowen Technique.

Frequently Asked Questions

For your convenience here are the answers to questions we frequently receive

Homeopathy is applicable to a broad range of maladies including acute inflammations, systemic imbalances, chronic degenerative diseases and mental/emotional disturbances. By its very nature, homeopathic treatment is not specific to a particular illness, but is directed at the underlying state of the person suffering from that illness. By addressing this state, the appropriately chosen remedy effectively addresses the illness.
Homeopathic remedies traditionally derive from an extraordinarily wide variety of plant, animal and mineral substances. They are made through a process of serial dilutions, where the original substance is diluted in water and is ‘succussed’, meaning that it is energized by shaking the dilution. The resultant remedy solution is then diluted and succussed again. This process is done repeatedly, sometimes hundreds or thousands of times, resulting in an extremely dilute and highly energetically potent remedy. By selecting a remedy that closely matches the individual characteristics of a person, a homeopath is able to stimulate a deep curative reaction. The remedies are usually dispensed in pillule form and are pleasant tasting and easy to take
Since the remedies are highly diluted, they do not contain significant amounts of the original substance from which they are made. Therefore, they do not have the toxic effects associated with many conventional medications or other substances. They are, however, powerful energetic stimuli and must be used with discretion. Sometimes, as part of the curative process, a person will experience a temporary intensification of symptoms.
Can homeopathic remedies be taken along with conventional medications?
Yes. Remedies will not affect any over the counter or prescribed medications. Some people who are already taking conventional medication, seek out homeopathic care with the goal of reducing or eliminating the medication. This may be possible with the proper remedy and treatment plan, but you will never be asked to stop or reduce any medication without first consulting your doctor.
Absolutely. Homeopathy is a wonderful, gentle healing modality appropriate for people of all ages and conditions. It also is extensively used to treat animals.
Homeopathy can work in seconds or it can take years. It all depends on the circumstances and how one defines “work”. Generally speaking, an appropriately chosen remedy can begin to alleviate symptoms fairly quickly, sometimes within days, and then continue to have a positive effect over months and years. The severity and history of the problems will usually determine the length of time needed for complete resolution. For example, a chronic pathology such as lifelong asthma will take more time to heal than an acute case of urticaria. After three appointments most homeopaths would expect that marked progress is being made.
Essentially your homeopath will listen deeply to you – taking the time to understand many different aspects of your personality and state of health. Facts of disease, descriptions of pains, emotional reactions, dreams and physical sensations are all relevant, as well as your diet, sleep pattern and how you react to stress. Your homeopath may ask you to repeat yourself many times in order to understand what you say on different levels. It is important to express yourself honestly. The better your homeopath understands your nature, the easier it will be to find the best remedy for you.
This depends very much on the nature of the complaint, but in most chronic cases appointments are at 4-6week intervals. If ongoing treatment is required over the longer term, then appointments would be spaced out further as appropriate. In acute conditions, such as infectious illnesses (eg tonsillitis), after the initial appointment, there would most likely be follow up reports by phone or email as required.
